VDID team to host two presentations for USU community

The Utah State University USTAR team Veterinary Diagnostics and Infectious Disease team will host two seminar presentations this coming week. Faculty members are encouraged to attend.

The first seminar, presented by Dr. Graca Almeida-Porada, professor in the department of animal biotechnology at the University of Nevada, Reno, is scheduled to be held July 26, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the Merrill-Cazier Library, room 154.

Almedia-Porada received an MD and PhD from the Instituto de Ciencias Biomedical Abel Salazar, University of Porto, Portugal. Her research focuses on human stem cell biology and tissue engineering, stem cell expansion and modulation, cell therapy and stem cell treatments for cancer. She is an editorial board member for Experimental Heratology.

The second seminar, presented by Dr. Christopher Porada, associate professor of molecular biology, stem cells and animal physiology at the University of Nevada, Reno, is scheduled to be held July 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Merrill-Cazier Library, room 154.

Christopher Daniel Porada received a BA from Colgate University in Molecular Biology and a PhD in Cell and Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology from the University of Nevada, Reno with research focusing on fetal gene therapy. He has been awarded the 2010 CABNR Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the University of Nevada, Reno and is the associate editor for Experimental Heratology. Porada’s research interests are focused on developing methods for safely and efficiently performing gene therapies in utero, thereby allowing for the correction of genetic disorders before the onset of disease and the resultant tissue damage.

Both events are open to the USU campus community. Please contact Jean Edwards, 435-797-2162 or jean.edwards@usu.edu for more information.
