Next Leonardo After Hours Will Crown Coolest Local Entrepreneurial Innovators
Five of Utah’s top entrepreneurial innovators will compete for the title of “Innovation Idol,” at the next Leonardo After Hours event on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Caputo’s by Night, 314 West 300 South.
Each presenter will vie for the hearts, minds, and “money” of a panel of expert judges and attendees. Each contestant will have just five minutes to demonstrate their innovation, and persuade the audience that their idea deserves top prize.
Presenters were chosen from the top ranks of Grow Utah Ventures’ Concept to Company, and University of Utah student innovation contests—or have received USTAR Technology Commercialization Grants. They include:
Tim Nelson, WaterJet International, Inc.: Pain-free dental drilling via a high-pressure, super-slim water stream.
Andrew Davis, VehiCALL: Auto upgrade that lets you lock or unlock our car from any phone—no more late-night calls to locksmiths!
Sam Hunter, Mobius Cycling’s Infinity Pedals: Unique bike pedals and shoe cleats that allow for a super quick clip-out, saving you from both road rash, and embarrassment.
Daniel Burman, Holorad: 3D holographic images for the advertising and entertainment industries – Talking signs, singing billboards.
Jordan Nicholls, Short Solutions: a patented technology developed that uses an onboard diagnostic tool to monitor and diagnose problems with automobile wiring.
The panel of judges includes Ethan Millard from KSL Radio’s Nightside Project, Jenny Brundin a reporter with KUER and host of Invention Dimension, and Troy D’Ambrosio, director of the University of Utah’s Entrepreneur Center. Audience members will select a winner by investing “Leo Lira” in their favorite candidate. The winning presenter will take home a real cash prize of $500.
The event is free and open to the public, although space is limited. To reserve a spot, please contact Chris at 801-531-9800, or email rsvp@theleonardo.org. Appetizers will be provided at no cost, and a cash bar will be available.
